When we do a membrane sweep, we are trying to strip the membranes away from the cervix.
This is something that you need training to do, to make sure that you don't actually hurt the cervix. So we wouldn't recommend that you do a DIY membrane sweep at home.
However, if you want to try and get into labour, there are lots of other things that you could try. Anything that stimulates oxytocin could be helpful, so kissing, nipple stimulation and orgasm are all ways that you could try and stimulate some oxytocin. Other things that people have found helpful are things like long walks and eating spicy foods or pineapple, although if you eat spicy food often, this might not work for you.

Why do you think it doesn't hurt at all for some people when their midwife checks them? And why it hurts more for others? Personally I just think it's common sense whether it's your finger or your partners or a midwifes as long as it's clean and sterile there's no risk to the baby.
What if she's not dilated at all how is she even able to reach the baby in its sack?? Do you really think advising this lady against it is going to prevent her from doing it? There is a thing called google. If she's that desperate to get things started and doesn't want to wait for an experienced doctor that's her choice. I'm not advising her to do it at all let's make that clear right now before the cattiness starts lmaooo. And as for, baby being in a sack and well protected; that's part of the issue!
You can rupture your sack of you don't know what you're doing. Even experienced doctors can, so it's important you're around professionals in a clean environment in that event. I'm glad your started your sentence with "I don't understand," because clearly you don't. It's not "judgement. It's not judgement, so please stop using that word as a cover. Like, ok, use a freaking pencil and do it, cuz I'm a stranger on the internet and know more than doctors.
Wouldn't want to come off as "judgemental," so let me just tell get something that could cause serious damage. Yes, that would be better. Checking your cervix for fertile days and sticking your fingers INTO your cervix are not the same. Don't do this yourself. Go for a long walk. Have some sex some think this can help stimulate labour.
Go back to your doctor and have them do a sweep. But don't risk doing it yourself. I would call the office and see if ur dr or another dr can do one real quick.
