Where is rafael from

After Michael is shot, Rafael cares for Mateo and protects him , while Jane's in the hospital. Once she returns, he is relieved but alert to Luisa's emotional condition and whether she's telling the truth about Rose.

Rafael says Elena isn't dead and Michael immediately orders a check on Elena's cell, where she's found dying, likely from poison, saying "my son" and holding a bible. Rafael has to talk with Dennis Chambers , who's investigating Elena's murder, and doesn't really want to dwell on yet another murder of someone who was supposed to be family but wasn't part of his life. However, Luisa is there to support him, although he still seems unsure of what he thinks of her.

Despite having mostly an adversarial relationship thus far on Rogelio's part , Rogelio suddenly tries to ask Rafael for a favor — going on a date with Amanda Elaine. Rafael's offended that Rogelio would only talk to him to ask a favor and something so gratuitous and he declines. Rafael talks to Jane about something not seeming right with Petra and Jane promises to investigate at dinner with "Petra" and Scott. Rafael reluctantly agrees to the date with Amanda when Jane asks him. Luisa comes to Rafael, saying she feels like she might drink and that she probably shouldn't be alone.

Rafael asks Rogelio, in turn, to stay with Luisa. Rogelio learns who Rafael is from spending time with Luisa and apologizes to Rafael for not seeing him until now. Rogelio and Rafael spend some time together as a family. Jane tells Rafael that she doesn't think "Petra" is actually Petra.

Rafael watches the footage late into the night but finds nothing. He works on getting Rogelio an audition for an American film, as he knows the producers, one of them a friend named Claire he knows from university. Rafael also offers Michael to work out at The Marbella gym, as Michael's getting in shape for his physical before returning to work. They meet up there, but Michael gets insecure about Rafael's fitness and starts making rude comments to him. Michael later accuses Rafael of trying to sleep with a married woman and sets their progress back.

Rogelio tricks Rafael into talking with Michael as the four of them - including Mateo - drive together. Rogelio has to leave for his audition, but the guys fight and Mateo is lost for 14 seconds.

In the aftermath, Michael admits why he was acting up and apologizes to Rafael, who in turn apologizes to Michael for not considering that Jane was engaged when she and Rafael fell in love. Picking up Rogelio after his audition, Michael realizes that the clues Elena left are numbers. Rafael and Rogelio realize it's a bank account. Petra reveals to Rafael that she was paralyzed and that she wants Rafael out of the hotel for good. Rafael apologizes and tries to plead with Petra because of their kids, but Petra's staunch.

Meanwhile, Rafael runs into Jane at the hotel and meets Catalina for the first time. They hit it off famously, but Jane feels insecure about Catalina's life in comparison to her own and tries to shut it down.

Rafael's annoyed at Jane's interference because he really likes Cat. After sorting things, Cat shows up at Rafael's door and they start seeing each other. Rafael makes a plan with Scott to get Petra to give him back his shares and agree to not blackmail Rafael anymore, leaving Rafael owing Scott a favor.

When Michael decodes Mutter's message in the bible, Rafael is led down the road to discover that his parents are not his biological parents — and also that the Solano family's valuable art collection was stolen by Emilio, from a convent in Italy. Rafael is shocked to learn this from the Nun who agreed to steal the art in exchange for money for poor children. Wanting to make amends for the horrendous Solano errors, Rafael confides in Michael and Jane that he covered up his father's cooked books, which Rafael discovered when Emilio was murdered.

Temporarily hurt at the thought of losing what he thought were his family's belongings, Rafael comes to terms with how holding on to things won't change how horrible his family actually was to him, despite the fact that it rips the small semblance of a foundation that he has out from under him. He decides to turn himself into the police, even if it means that he has to serve a prison sentence for hiding the art, to set a good example for Mateo, Ellie, and Anna.

Cat calls Jane, telling her that Rafael's not doing well and Jane visits him, trying to get him to talk about what's hurting him. Rafael confides in her that he's not the son of Elena and Emilio. Rafael gets a DNA test, which confirms he is not related to the Solanos.

Meanwhile, Petra accuses him of working with Scott and, focused on his own plight, Rafael continues to demean Petra, condescendingly telling her that she's being paranoid, despite her assertion actually being true. Going through Emilio's records, Rafael discovers that Emilio had an addendum to his will drawn up, which stipulates his fortune will only be inherited by his biological children. This makes Rafael even more sure that Emilio knew Rafael wasn't his biological son, and that's why Emilio was emotionally abusive toward Rafael, but not Luisa.

Rafael also learns from Jane that Cat is actually married, but she swears she's getting a divorce and that it's over, although Rafael and Jane discuss how they both aren't sure they trust her. Rafael decides to end things with Cat, which he tells Jane, but Cat finds out beforehand from Petra, who offers her money to keep Rafael out of the hotel so Petra can search his apartment.

During a trip to a sweat lodge, Rafael passes out and ends up becoming emotional, revealing his newly discovered parentage. Cat is kind and there for him, and later reveals something personal about herself as well. Because of this, she tells him the truth about her arrangement with Petra and Rafael discovers that Petra has been surveilling him. He realizes that Petra isn't out to get him, but in fact, suffering from PTSD following her paralysis. Rafael asks Catalina to leave as he doesn't find her trustworthy and has so much going on, so he tells her that's not what he wants in his life at this moment.

Rafael also gets a psychologist for Petra. He promises Petra he won't as she doesn't feel like she can be a single mother with the twins, as they still aren't used to her and cry around her.

When Jane tells Rafael that Mateo is copying their movements at the moment, is stirs Rafael and he decides that he wants a clean slate after all the mess his family's put him through, so that his children won't have the same experiences of lying parents that he did and that he won't become his father. Petra manages a night with the girls without him and supports his decision. Rafael comes to pick up Mateo the moment Jane gets the phone call that Michael has died and she breaks down screaming.

Rafael runs to her and holds her as she screams in pain. After serving 9 months in prison, Rafael has a more zen outlook on life, specifically his work with the Marbella, which he has largely left to Petra.

Rafael apologized for his actions when the fight ended. He was later seen with Jed. Jed came to him and told him that Jed doesn't really care about Rafael but only the pack.

As he was already lost the pack while he was still their Alpha and Rafael shouldn't make the same mistake as he did and let his pride get in the way if he cares about them. When he heard that his best friend Landon was in trouble he came into Hope's room and told her what he wants to come with as she couldn't go alone and the last time she went without him it was a disaster. Hope stated the fact that she wasn't going alone in the first place. She was taking the twins, MG and Kaleb with her and they would be back without Dr.

Saltzman knowing they left. Though he insisted on coming along, Hope told him that Dr. Saltzman mentioned her about the side effects and that she couldn't let him come along. She asked him how he felt and he said like his brain split down the middle that he keeps having these flashes like he can't control himself.

She asked him why not saying all of these sooner and he answered it that he couldn't and she knows why. He tells him that he doesn't want to feel this way, so he pushes it down, and that just makes the split in his brain worse, which makes it harder to hide.

She tells him that he needs to put himself first for once gives him a ring that can let you turn at will but doesn't let you turn back at human form again. So if he wants to turn back he will have to find her. As Hope about to leave he tells her to save their boy and don't let anything stop her. In There's Always a Loophole , in the hallway, his eyes can be seen turning yellow as Hope asks if he's okay he replies with that his mind still won't settle down and tells Hope that he can't join the fight.

Hope gives him her reverse kyanite ring so he can use it against Triad. He is later made invisible so he can attack some of the Triad members. Afterwards, when Hope jumps into Malivore, Rafael stays trapped in his wolf form as she is the only one who can turn him back.

Landon frequently visits him, feeding and talking to him about what is going on at the school. Landon promises to keep looking for a way to turn him back into his human form.

Shortly after, Landon returns but is unable to find Rafael, which worries him. He enlists the help of Josie to cast a locator spell and track down Rafael, who is eventually revealed to have ran off and left Landon, which upsets him. The two kill the shunka, and are both left intrigued by Hope, questioning who she is, but neither of them know completely. Whilst there, Rafael is possessed by the oni when he bumps into someone in the hall.

This causes him to act aggressive towards Landon, but it separated from him when Hope arrives. The two lock him in the trunk of Alaric's car, however he escapes shortly after.

He fights with Kurutta , and is able to escape by knocking him to the ground. He is found in the changing rooms shortly after by Sheriff Mac , who alerts Alaric to his situation.

He fears that Lizzie will say something bad about him. Landon tells him not to worry about the whole situation, but this doesn't calm him.

When the two of them are paired up into groups to hunt the croatoan, Rafael tries to get closer with Hope, telling her that he isn't scared of technicalities, however she does not retaliate with any form of affection. Later on, when Rafael and everyone else get their memories of Hope back, Rafael realizes that he can never be with Hope on account of her history with Landon; he later tells her this at the Commonwealth Day celebrations, which upsets her.

The sphinx reveals that he will not. This revelation prompts Rafael to confront Landon about his position at the school, and the two decide that leaving the school is the best way forward. When he opens the envelope, it is revealed to be a map of Rafael's lineage, revealing that his parents are still alive somewhere. The two track them down, and Rafael finds out a little about his history, along with things about his mother.

He is keen to spend time with his father, Walt , and decides to sleep overnight and catch the first bus back to the school the following morning. In You Can't Save Them All , he had been tied up with a burlap sack over his head in an abandoned trailer.

He is found by MG and is taken back to the school, where he says that the last thing he remembers is being at the bus station. He later shares an alcoholic drink with Alaric, MG and Kaleb. Later, he develops the photographs he has taken and is shocked to see the Necromancer in each of the photos. When the simulation is over, Rafael talks with Hope who is afraid that something will always come between her and Landon. He brings concerns of the visions to Landon, and the two find a large pool of blood in a field on the Salvatore Estate.

Rafael believes that he may have killed someone, but is unable to recall it. Landon and Rafael take the concerns to an astral projection of Vardemus, however they do not reveal what Rafael believes to have done. Instead, he suggests that they drop the blood onto a magical silver plate that will reveal who the blood belongs to. Landon is called away, but Rafael goes through with the task and is shocked to find his face appear on the plate.

Later down by the river, Rafael explains that he remembers everything clearly now — he did die. Rafael explains to Landon that he was ambushed by Chad and the Necromancer following his return to Mystic Falls. The Necromancer resurrected him and has been controlling him ever since. Shortly after, Rafael — under the Necromancer's control — stabs Landon with the golden arrow. Alaric tells Rafael that everything is fine, and Landon will resurrect himself shortly, but Rafael remarks that this time is different, and shows Alaric the golden arrow.

He explains to Alaric the situation and that he is under the Necromancer's control, and asks numerous times for Alaric to kill him and end the Necromancer's control over him.

Alaric refuses, however and tells Rafael that they will put a sleeping spell on him until they can fix him. Rafael becomes angry — under the Necromancer's influence — and begins to attack Alaric. In We're Not Worthy , Rafael struggles with the idea that Landon doesn't want to return from death with the help of the Necromancer. After talking with Landon, it becomes clear that Landon doesn't want the Necromancer to gain full access to the dark magic promised to him by Alaric and the others; for this reason, he will not return, therefore not completing the deal made.

Rafael tells Landon that being the hero never works out for the students, and almost always ends in tragedy. Landon is reluctant to accept the narrative, however, and remarks that there are several advantages to him being a ghost, including the ability to cheat on exam papers.

With Landon not grasping the importance of his return, Rafael shows him Hope 's body whilst she slumbers, revealing that Alaric believes she will not return until he does.

This is enough to convince Landon to return from death. Nimue congratulates Rafael as the next wielder of Excalibur. Meanwhile, Rafael arrives at the Salvatore field day to help the students battle the Green Knight. Rafael pulls Excalibur — believing it to be an ordinary weapon — from the stone and strikes the knight with it, killing him immediately.

Nimue, the Lady of the Lake congratulates Rafael and welcomes him as the next true wielder of Excalibur. She tells him that if he is a worthy wielder, she should never have to return to reclaim the sword again, and disappears moments later. Rafael later talks with Landon, who has returned from death, and shows him Excalibur, remarking that he is now the wielder.

Landon laughs at Rafael, but is surprised simultaneously. They embrace in a hug and eventually catch up on current events. Rafael is making the best out of the situation he's in and believes its only a prison if you feel trapped. He admits it's something that he learned from Landon in foster care.

Hope explains that if she kills Malivore, everything inside him could die too. Rafael understands no matter her choice. With Smith now being committed to the filming schedule for All American: Homecoming , and with it and Legacies both being CW shows and potentially on overlapping shooting schedules, it would appear that, even if Smith were to return as Rafael, it would only be in guest spots every so often.

It's not necessarily uncommon for shows to leave the door open for characters to return. And the " anything goes " nature of genre shows means that storylines are also sometimes left open in order to walk them back or make narrative retcons later if need be.

But the confusing way Rafael's situation was handled is indicative of a larger issue with Legacies and why it's been so frustrating for audiences. It's one thing to close a chapter of a story but make it clear that it's a " for now " ending and not a " for good " ending.

But Legacies has a habit of dropping major storylines after only half-resolving them — Raf's current situation and future are just one example. Legacie s season 4 doesn't seem to be growing out of the habit, either. Offers may be subject to change without notice. Article continues below advertisement. Is Rafael coming back to 'Legacies' for Season 4? Only time will tell if and when Alex will return to the set of Legacies. Season 4 of Legacies airs on Thursdays at 9 p.

EST on the CW.
