The 99's have and adjustable rear sight, the 92's do not. Draw your own conclusion as to the meaning of AFS. It was great!!! The 4 settings allowed for very fine sight adjustments that were used for changing the sights for distances of 7, 15, 25 and 50 yards while firing the same competition loaded ammo during combat matches. You dialed the front sight as you moved back in distance, this allowed you to keep the exact same point of aim throughout the entire course of fire.
Of course, no one is capable of firing a 50 yard shot anymore I guess since they no longer have that distance in combat matches, men used to men. I wish I had kept that gun, it was a great revolver. Don't be so quick to say something is Ridiculous!!!!!!!!! The alloy frame reduces the weight of the pistol significantly without any real loss of strength. Some shooters feel that the alloy is not durable enough in the long term.
I'm sure this was meant as a reply to one of the 20 posts on this 5 year old thread but without you addressing someone directly it's just a random statement.

Taurus PT99 Taurus pistols have had a long and distinguished history, known for making pistols that can be counted on for their reliability, durability and accuracy. Taurus PT92 In , Taurus purchased the Beretta factory in Sao Paulo, Brazil "lock, stock and barrel" and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus 92 and 99 9mm pistols.

Join Date Jan Taurus seems to either be good or bad when it comes to semi autos, I've heard a couple good accounts about their 92 copy but not much otherwise. How much cheaper is it? If the cost difference wasn't that bad I would just go with the beretta; since it's the weapon you'll be carrying anyway it will be like using the one you already have - and the adjustable sights aren't really necessary.
Join Date Oct I have one of the older Taurus PT99s. It doesn't have the decocker and it has been a good gun. I have shot the crap out of it. At the time I picked it because it had a frame mounted safety and one of the older students who was already working for a police department told me about the same manual of arms method since I had a also.
And a bonus I found for competition is that you can carry cocked and lock if you have any draw, change hands and fire drills, you don't have to deal with weak hand and a double action trigger. When gunslingers come to town, sai, things get broken. It's a simple fact of life. Join Date Apr I owned one for many years and it was a great gun.
Mine gave me no problems early 90's it shot great. You'd have a hard time telling them apart in the dark. Here in Brazil the PT is fairly common among police and military, a friend of mine carries one as his duty gun.
If I had a PT down here I'd be a happy camper.
